Our Shooting Disciplines

We offer 6 different shooting disciplines at the club and typically shoot these on our Sunday club days. Club days are your entry into the sport and are where learn the rules and techniques for your chosen discipline in a safe and friendly environment.

Many of our top shooters attend our club days and they are always willing to provide advice and guidance to those new to the sport.

IPSC stands for the International Practical Shooting Confederation. IPSC is the largest and oldest governing body for practical shooting sports in the world. 

The motto for IPSC is D.V.C.; Diligentia, Vis, and Celeritas, which stands for Accuracy, Power, and Speed. It is a balance of all three of these that will make you successful in IPSC competitions. It is good to be accurate but not if you are too slow and you do not have enough power. It is good to be fast and powerful but only if you hit the target. No one skill is valued more then the other, a balance of the three is needed.

Diligentia, Accuracy,  is dealt with by assigning scoring values to the target, which gives a premium for center hits, and lesser values for peripheral hits. Points are deducted for misses.

Vis, Power is handled by setting major and minor power minimum power levels and penalizing minor calibers by giving them lower scores for peripheral hits than those given to major calibers. It was determined that firearms of less then 9mm/.38 were not acceptable for competitions. These are the minimum calibers that are allowed to be used for competition.

Celeritas, Speed is measured by timing each competitor or by fixing the time required for a particular event.

Action Pistol Shooting, now referred to as CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) is a highly demanding handgun competition that perfectly balances speed and accuracy. Unlike IPSC and Multigun, CMP shooters are required to shoot from fixed positions within strict time limits.

Multigun (often called 3-Gun) is a dynamic action shooting sport where competitors use three different firearms—a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun to navigate through a unique obstacle course. Shooters transition between weapons and shoot at various targets ranging from close-quarters to long-range, with the fastest overall time and highest accuracy winning.

ISSF shooting refers to the target shooting sports governed by the International Sport Shooting Federation. It encompasses highly precise, Olympic-style disciplines involving rifle, pistol, shotgun, and running target events, focusing heavily on accuracy and time management. 

Cowboy Action Shooting is a timed, multi-gun competitive sport where participants use authentic or reproduction firearms from the Old West, typically two single-action revolvers, a lever-action rifle, and a period-appropriate shotgun. Competitors dress in period attire and navigate dynamic stages based on historical incidents or Western movie scenes.

Black Powder shooting is a target sport that uses firearms propelled by traditional black powder (gunpowder) rather than modern smokeless powder. It often involves muzzleloaders—where the propellant and projectile are loaded down the barrel’s front or uses historic black powder cartridge rifles. The sport requires precise reloading techniques and produces large amounts of smoke.
