Become a Member of our Club

Joining a pistol club takes commitment. The process for membership isn’t instant and you will required to fulfil a number of obligations before you can be considered a full member of the club.

Your first steps are either coming to the range with a Full member who can show you around or you attend one of our club Induction Courses. These are typically held every 2 months and you are taken on a guided tour of the club and introduced to all the disciplines on offer. You can ask questions and decide where you might like go when you are eligible. At the completion of the course, you will shoot at some targets on the front ranges with a variety of pistols.

If you are new to shooting and just want to see what the club can offer, you can come to the club with a Full member, they will sign you in as a visitor and show you around.

If you already possess a firearms licence and want to take the next step to joining a club, you can register for one of our Induction Courses.

This course costs $75.00 and should you decide to apply for Probationary Membership, this fee will be deducted off your annual membership.

As you progress, costs will increase:

Club Membership – This is your annual club membership fee, a portion of which is allocated to your Pistol NZ membership. These rates will vary depending on your age and whether you are joining with another family member. They will range anywhere from $200.00 – $400.00 per year. There is an additional fee if you wish to shoot IPSC.

Firearms Endorsement Application – This is set by NZ Police. This is currently $204.00 and you will need to pay this once you are full member and ready to apply for your Pistol Club Target Shooting Endorsement (B Cat).

Pistol Safe – This is a pre requisite for obtaining your B Endorsement. If you already possess a safe that is rated to include pistols then that may comply otherwise you will need a dedicated safe for your pistol. Pistol safes start at around $350.00.

Pistol Purchase – Once you receive your Endorsement, you will need to consider purchasing a pistol. This will be your single most important investment and it completely dependant on the discipline you intend to shoot. You can expect to pay anywhere between $1200.00 and $20000.00 for a pistol.There are also secondhand options available and members often sell their guns on our Trading Post. It is best to talk to other members about what they shoot and then make an informed decision. Members are more than happy to let you shoot their pistols if asked, so we encourage this before you make a purchase.

Range Equipment – Initially you need to invest in a good set of Safety Glasses and Ear Protection. These are mandatory to shoot on any of our ranges. An entry level set of electronic ear muffs and safety glasses can be purchased for around $100.00. Once you have been shooting for a while, you may to want upgrade them and then purchase a additional equipment for your chosen discipline.

Ongoing costs – The biggest ongoing cost in our sport is ammunition. You may wish to invest in your own reloading equipment once you have been shooting for a while, but typically you will spend between $25.00 on .22LR and between $35.00 and $70.00 a week on 9mm ammunition depending on the discipline you are shooting. Larger calibre ammunition is more expensive. While you are still a Probationary Member shooting club guns, you will need to purchase club ammunition from the armourer. The club charges $35.00 for 50 rounds of 9mm.
